Please join us for an evening of celebration and a heartfelt tribute to the Wenatchee Valley Street Rods.
The “Spirit of A.Z. Wells” Award pays tribute to those who selflessly share their time, talent and treasure for the betterment of Confluence Health and our community.
The club, founded in 1975, drew members with an abiding love for street rods, and over 40 years, eight of those years as a Confluence Health Foundation Guild, turned that passion into more than $200,000 in scholarships and medical equipment for the Wenatchee Valley.
At first, the goal was simply to raise enough money to host a decent car show in the Valley. In 1977, they’d raised enough to put on the first three-day show at the Chelan County Fairgrounds, with around 70 entries. With hundreds of visitors paying $5 to come and ogle the cars, it didn’t take long for the show to outgrow the fairgrounds and move to the Confluence State Park. As years went by, the number of entries grew to a peak of 385, with fancy street rods from across North America.
Their goal from the beginning was to build a large enough fund to provide three $1,000 scholarships a year, forever. Today, even though the club is primarily a social club, their legacy continues. Each spring they provide three scholarships to Confluence Health employees. The proceeds from the evening will extend their philanthropic roots in our valley far into the future.
