American Cancer Society Funds Transportation Grant, Back to Screening Grant

Living in North Central Washington is a privilege. The open spaces, diversity of landscapes, and natural beauty are unique treasures that we all share as residents of this region.

However, living in a mostly rural area also creates transportation challenges for some individuals and families. The cost and logistics required to travel from outlying areas, like Plain, Twisp, Royal City, or Entiat can create barriers to accessing services in more populated communities. For some of Confluence Health’s patients, transportation barriers impact the ability to access healthcare services, like cancer screening and treatment.

In November, the American Cancer Society (ACS) awarded Confluence Health and the Foundation a $5,000 grant, which would help purchase gas cards, taxi rides, and bus passes for patients undergoing cancer treatment. These funds will assist those that need a little extra help to reach life-saving cancer care.

This grant complements another grant that ACS awarded to the Quality and Oncology departments at Central Washington Hospital. The ‘Return to Screening’ grant acknowledges the disruptive role the pandemic played in routine cancer screening rates. ACS provided $20,000 in grant funding to help connect people with colon cancer screening opportunities.

We are so grateful for ACS’s contributions to our community. Improving access to treatment and getting people back to routine cancer screenings is important work. We are proud to partner with ACS to move the residents of this region towards better health. Together, we make a difference!
